It all began in Eichenzell, Germany, in 1969. When the company was founded, its name was HPI, but one Wassermann was already involved: Helmut Wassermann, the father of today’s general manager. Word of the young company’s expertise spread, the number of orders it received grew, the company expanded – and modernized.
In 1976, the company moved to its first own factory building in the Rhön Industrial Park in Eichenzell, and introduced CNC technology into production shortly thereafter. In doing so, HPI demonstrated it had the courage to innovate. Anyone who got involved in this new form of manufacturing in the 1970s could rightfully call themselves a pioneer. The courage paid off – with the CNC-supported machines, the company continued on its successful path and continuously expanded its infrastructure in Eichenzell. In 1980, the medium-sized company entered a new field of application – vacuum technology – and started manufacturing systems for this technology. Five years later, HPI launched cam production and quickly proved its outstanding expertise in this demanding field as well.
Shortly before the turn of the millennium, the company took another big step, entering the field of tool automation in 1999 with its first tool changer developed and manufactured in-house. This was a new field of business in which the automation specialist from Eichenzell quickly made a name for itself among OEMs and machine tool manufacturers.
In 2004, the Wassermann family became the sole shareholder, and the company has been operating under the name WASSERMANN Technologie GmbH since 2013. In 2012, construction began on Factory 2 and the company’s capacity took a big leap forward. But space soon became scarce again, so WASSERMANN bought a neighboring property with four production halls only a few years later in 2019. 50 years have now passed since the company was founded and the small business has grown into a medium-sized enterprise.
